Pulau Pangkor

The sea was invincible and magnificent at noon. I don't mind getting dark so I had a good time getting close to the water and admiring its clarity. Genuinely crystal blue and jade green in colours, that's what I saw when we reached north of Teluk Nipah, near Kuan Yin temple. The water reflected the sun beam and sparkled so beautifully. We toured around the island after lunch, around 3pm and the sea already lost its charm as the sun light did not shine directly on the water. So if you plan to come, noon time is the best. Forget about getting dark la hot la. Just forget about it. Enjoy!!

Travel tips

There are two options to go to Pangkor: Take ferry at Lumut jetty or take ferry at Marina Island jetty. We chose the latter. It's just a 15 minutes drive from Sitiawan (we spent the night before). The return ticket for each person is RM10, and if all of you are first-timers, one of you might need to register as their member, the registration fee is RM10.

Rent a car. We rent an old Wira (manual) for RM60. The price might fluctuate throughout the year. Remember to check the brake, air cond and wheels. We got Iswara (auto) at first but the air cond wasn't working. We returned to the office and changed to Wira. The Wira was fine but the tyres were under inflation. So seriously, beware and check the car first. Pump petrol and inflate the tyres at Buraq Oil station, RM10 is more than enough for half a day. Get a map from the car dealer. You're ready to go.

There is no vegetarian restaurant in Pangkor. Oh well it's ok. The people were friendly to take our special orders.

If you travel with more people, consider hiring a guide with the pink van.

Pangkor can be cleaner and better. Look at the invincible and beautiful sea. You'll wish that people would love and take care of the island. But, no, no extra protection seems to be bestowed upon her. It's not clean and the road signs were not in good condition. 

This is a typical, classic and saddening reality that happens to most of the beautiful places in the country. How sad. 

You know how beaches on the west coast always have a bad reputation (think about Port Dickson?). Pangkor is already beyond my expectation. 

Note: 8 days to 2015 and it's time for a roundup. This year has been crazy, sad, silly, adventurous and funny. In case you are wondering, I'm still a research postgrad student... Oh well...
